Heat Kills Batteries Even Faster Than Cold

Most drivers blame winter, but summer heat does the most internal damage to a battery. By the time a fall cold snap hits, the damage is already done. If yours is 3+ years old, load-test it now. If it's borderline, get a mobile replacement before your trip.

Tire Pressure & Tread

• Check pressure cold (before driving). Hot air expands — readings after highway driving are misleading.
• Look for sidewall cracks. UV and heat dry out rubber, especially on cars that sit.

Cooling System

• Coolant level and color (rusty = flush time).
• Look for stains under the car after it sits.
• A radiator that struggles on 75°F days won't survive 95°F + AC + I-76 traffic.

Fuel Strategy

Long stretches of PA — especially the Turnpike and the route up to the Poconos — have wide gaps between exits. Stop at ½ tank, not ¼. If you do run dry close to home, mobile fuel delivery is faster than walking a shoulder in 90°F heat.
